Why it happens
LinkedIn caches link preview data for up to 7 days. Updating og:title, og:description, or og:image has no effect until that cache expires, for both existing posts and new shares of the same URL.
Force a refresh with Post Inspector
- Go to linkedin.com/post-inspector (requires login)
- Enter your URL and click Inspect
- LinkedIn re-crawls the page and shows the updated preview
- New shares of this URL will use the fresh data
Query parameter workaround
If you need the update right now:
https://example.com/page?v=2
LinkedIn treats this as a new URL and crawls it fresh.
Existing posts keep the old preview
Already-published posts snapshot the preview at post time. The Post Inspector only affects future shares. There’s no way to update previews on posts that are already in the feed.
Prevention
If you’re about to change OG tags (site redesign, new branding), hit the Post Inspector right after deploying. For important pages, always verify the preview there before sharing.
