Image Handling

Image sizes, aspect ratios, and format requirements for LinkedIn previews

Recommended dimensions

LinkedIn displays link preview images at a 1.91:1 aspect ratio. Use 1200 x 627 pixels, which fills the card cleanly on both desktop and mobile.

Cropping

LinkedIn center-crops to fit 1.91:1. Keep important text and visuals away from the edges.

Size limits

  • Minimum width: 200px (anything smaller shows as a tiny thumbnail or gets dropped entirely)
  • Maximum file size: 5 MB

Supported formats

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF. Use JPEG or PNG at high quality. LinkedIn re-processes images, so a better source file means a better result.

The 2024 thumbnail change

In 2024, LinkedIn switched organic (non-promoted) posts to a smaller thumbnail layout. Sponsored content still gets the full-width image.

A perfectly sized 1200x627 image will appear smaller in organic posts now. Still use those dimensions. LinkedIn could change the layout again, and you want the highest quality at whatever size it renders.

Image URL requirements

The og:image URL must be:

  • An absolute URL (not relative)
  • Accessible to LinkedInBot without auth
  • Served over HTTPS
  • Not behind redirects that need cookies or JavaScript
