Cache duration
LinkedIn caches link preview data for up to 7 days. During that window, updating your OG tags has no effect. Both existing posts and new shares of the same URL show the cached version.
Post Inspector
The Post Inspector lets you force a re-crawl. Enter your URL, LinkedIn fetches it again, and new shares will use the updated data.
You must be logged into LinkedIn to use it.
Cache busting with query parameters
For an immediate refresh on new shares, append a query parameter:
https://example.com/page?v=2
LinkedIn caches by exact URL, so this triggers a fresh crawl. The original URL’s cache remains stale; this only helps new shares using the modified URL.
Common caching problems
- Tags updated, old preview still showing: wait up to 7 days or use the Post Inspector
- Preview disappeared after re-crawl: your server probably returned an error during the crawl, and LinkedIn cached that error state
- Feed shows different preview than Post Inspector: existing posts snapshot the preview at post time; the Post Inspector always shows the latest crawl
