How LINE caches link previews
LINE caches preview data after Linespider fetches a page. The cache duration isn’t documented, but it can persist for a long time. Re-sharing the same URL may serve cached data.
Official cache-clearing tool
LINE is one of the few messaging platforms that provides an official cache-deletion tool through the LINE Developers site. You can request cache invalidation for specific URLs, forcing a re-crawl on the next share – similar to Facebook’s Sharing Debugger.
Check the LINE Developers documentation for current tool location and usage.
Forcing a refresh without the tool
- Wait for natural expiry – timing is unpredictable
- Append
?v=2to force LINE to treat the URL as new - Share in a new message after the cache expires
Cache behavior for images
Images cache separately from text metadata. Title and description may update while the image still shows a cached version. The cache-clearing tool should invalidate both.
When caching goes wrong
- Updated tags but old preview – use the cache-clearing tool or wait
- Image updated but old image showing – image cache is separate; use the clearing tool
- No preview after fixing OG tags – the error state may be cached; clear and retry
