Recommended image dimensions

1200 x 630 pixels (1.91:1 ratio). Images appear below the text content in the unfurl card. Card width varies between desktop and mobile.

Display behavior

Google Chat unfurls have a left accent border with domain, title, and description as text, then the image below. Images scale proportionally without cropping. Very tall images may be truncated at the bottom.

Size limits

No official limits, but in practice:

• Minimum: under ~100px in either dimension may not display
• Maximum file size: over 5MB may time out
• Keep under 1MB for fast loading

Supported formats

JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP. Animated GIFs display as a static frame.

Image URL requirements

The og:image URL must be:

• An absolute URL (not relative)
• Accessible without authentication
• Served over HTTPS
• Directly accessible (no JavaScript-based redirects)

When no image is provided

Google Chat still generates a text-only unfurl with the accent border, title, and description. Functional, but less prominent.
