Wix sites ship with no share image at all

Four Wix sites, two of them Wix's own template demos, and not one og:image tag between them. The title is there. The picture is up to the owner, and the owner never set it.

So the bakery's link is a bare line of text

Millions of small businesses, and the link they text to customers has no picture.

What's actually wrong

Wix writes og:title, og:description, og:url, and twitter:card on every page. It does not write og:image unless the site owner uploads one in the page's SEO settings. We checked two of Wix's own hosted template demos and two small-business sites on wixsite.com. None of the four has an og:image. twitter:card is set to summary_large_image on all of them, so the tags promise a big picture and then don't supply one. Wix's help center goes further: even when an owner does upload an image, "you cannot control the og:image on Instagram, Whatsapp, or iMessage." That line sits on a feature-request page that is still collecting votes.

This is problem 2 of the 5 ways link previews break. The full breakdown covers the manual fix and the automatic one.

What that costs downstream

The people least able to fix it are the ones who have it

Wix's customers are bakeries, salons, contractors, and clinics. They chose Wix so they wouldn't need a developer. The share image is a setting most of them will never find, on a tab they will never open.

The sale happens in a text thread

A small business sends its website to customers over WhatsApp and Messages far more than through search. A link with no picture is the first impression, and it's blank.

Wix says it can't help on the apps that matter

For Instagram, WhatsApp, and iMessage, Wix's own documentation says the owner can't control the image at all. Those three are where small businesses share links.

For whoever owns the templates

The tag isn't written

Wix writes title, description, and card type on every page, and leaves og:image out unless the owner supplies one. Most owners don't.

og:image → (none) twitter:card → summary_large_image

The apps that matter are out of scope

Wix's own help center says the image can't be controlled on Instagram, WhatsApp, or iMessage, and files that as a feature request.

One tag in the Wix renderer fixes every site

OpenGraph+ renders the card from the page. Wix adds one meta tag at the platform level, and millions of small-business sites get a card with no setting to find.
