Twitch links unfurl as a logo, not a stream

So 'come watch this' shows nothing to watch

The most visual product on the internet, sharing the least visual card.

What's actually wrong

twitch.tv sets its share image to twitch_logo3.jpg and declares twitter:card summary, the thumbnail-sized format. This is a platform whose product is live video, where every second of every stream produces imagery, and whose growth depends on "come watch this" links landing in Discord servers and group chats. Those links unfurl as a small purple logo. The one platform built on watching renders as the one card with nothing to watch.

This is cause 4 of the 5 ways link previews break. The full breakdown covers the manual fix and the automatic one.

a live video platform, unfurling as a static logo

What that costs downstream

Raids start smaller

A "we're live" link that shows a logo instead of the stream converts worse in every Discord it lands in. That's fewer concurrent viewers at the moment that decides discoverability.

Small streamers pay the most

Big streamers have audiences who click anything. Growth-stage creators depend on the card selling the click, and the card sells Twitch instead.

Clips convert worse

Clips are Twitch's viral unit. Every clip link that unfurls small and logo-first hands attention to platforms whose cards autoplay.

The stream, in the card

For whoever owns the templates

summary caps the format

Even a perfect image renders thumbnail-sized under twitter:card summary. Large card is one meta tag away.

Live data belongs in cards

Viewer counts and stream titles change by the minute. Static share assets can't keep up; rendered cards can.

Refreshed on your schedule

OpenGraph+ re-renders on cache expiry you control, so "LIVE" cards can stay honest without a pipeline team.
