The link-in-bio company ships a default share image

So the link company's link is generic

The demo every prospect sees first, left on default.

What's actually wrong

linktr.ee's own share image is a file named linktree-default.jpg. The entire product is making one link carry a person's whole presence, and the company's own link carries an asset with "default" in the filename. The tags are complete and well-formed; the value is the placeholder. For the 50-million-creator platform whose product is literally links, the share card is the product demo, and it's running on the factory setting.

This is cause 3 of the 5 ways link previews break. The full breakdown covers the manual fix and the automatic one.

What that costs downstream

The pitch undercuts itself

Linktree's sell is "your one link, done beautifully." A default-named share asset on their own domain is the counterexample in the wild.

Creators get the same generic card

Millions of creator profiles are shared daily. Each card is a chance to make the creator look polished and the platform look premium. Default art spends both.

Competitors get a free angle

In a category with a dozen link-in-bio rivals, "even their own link looks generic" is a slide someone else gets to make.

The filename tells the story

Your card is your demo

For a product about links looking good, every unfurl of linktr.ee is a product screenshot. Defaults demo the wrong thing.

Fixed once, correct forever

OpenGraph+ renders cards from the pages themselves, so marketing pages and features stay in sync with the card automatically.
